El Curanto / Una intervención con historia a través de la cocina. Para Katiushka, la comunidad y el espacio de diálogo y la conversación que suceden alrededor de la mesa o de un fuego con una comida son parte del proceso de creación artística. El cuerpo colectivo que se crea en este caso es mucho más interesante que la concepción individual de ideas. La obra de arte o el proceso de creación artística crea un entorno social donde la gente se reúne para compartir e intercambiar. Esta es la base para el proyecto en el MAM. Como hija de padres chilenos, de vuelta en Chile, viviendo en Nueva York, o de viaje en el extranjero, siempre estoy buscando acceder a mis raíces y antepasados en busca de inspiración para los diálogos que creo entre personas a través de la cocina y el arte. En MAM, voy a pasar tiempo con chilotes, comprendiendo su proceso y técnicas ancestrales para hacer un Curanto. Comprendiendo la historia y las maneras como se hicieron durante siglos, voy a llevar esta tradición al MAM cocinando un Curanto tradicional en el museo para todo el mundo, para celebrar en conjunto generando un diálogo sobre la historia, la tradición y la importancia de preservar nuestras raíces. El proceso será documentado y se mostrará mientras consumimos los frutos de nuestros esfuerzos.
An intervention with history through cooking. For Katiushka the community and the space for dialogue and conversation that happens around the table or a fire with a meal is part of the process to art making. The collective body that is created in this instance is much more interesting than the individual consumption of ideas. The artwork or the process of art making creates a social environment where people come together to share and exchange. This is the foundation for the project at MAM. As a child of Chilean parents, whether back in Chile, home in New York, or traveling abroad, I am always looking to access my roots and ancestors for inspiration in the dialogues I create between people through cooking and through art. At MAM, I will spend time with chilotes, understanding their process and ancestral techniques for making Curanto. Understanding the history and the choices that were made over centuries I will then bring this tradition to MAM by cooking a traditional Curanto at the museum for everyone to feast on together while creating a dialogue concerning history, tradition, and the importance of preserving our roots. The process will be documented and shown while consuming the fruits of our efforts.
